Week 4!

 Hey everybody!

I don't know about you guys, but I think last week was pretty epic. I just got engaged, so there is a LOT of joy in those goodies!! I'm super proud of those bagels--hopefully you all enjoyed them!

A couple updates:
  • I re-did the recipe for the Honey Whole Grain loaf. It's much lighter and lovelier now and also available in sandwich rolls (which I have been nomming like crazy they are so good).
  • I also have a new recipe for Tomato Basil bread that's pretty fantastic.
  • A new dessert includes mini tarts with local raspberries, blueberries, and foraged black raspberries I've been finding around Blacksburg in a shortbread crust. In other words, an immediate foodgasm.
  • Finally, going back to the bagels... those are incredibly time intensive and I only got 4 big ones out of the recipe for 6. Two options: smaller bagels @ 4 for $4 or keep the same size and do $5 for 4. What seems reasonable to you guys? I can't make them if you won't buy them and I love making them :) Leave your comment in your order post.

Ingredient Origin Note:
  • Blueberries (Newport/Sinking Creek, picked by me & my fiance :),
  • Raspberries (Spencer/Local),
  • Blackberries (picked by me all around Blacksburg),
  • Lavender (my plant + on campus by Femoyer),
  • Rosemary (my plant + the student garden),
  • Thyme (my plant + my friend Cara's plant),
  • Oregano (Cara's plant),
  • Sage (my plant),
  • Garlic (farmers market).
***Your herbs are fresh! Besides the Rosemary, they are always still green! I usually just run out to my little apartment garden and gather them just before I start baking.

BREADS

Sammich Loaf: French, Honey Whole Grain <wheat and oat> ($5), Tomato Basil ($5), Rosemary, Herb, Avocado + Sunflower ($7), Maple Walnut ($6)
Round Loaf: French, Honey Whole Grain ($5), Tomato Basil ($5), Rosemary, Herb, Avocado + Sunflower ($7), Maple Walnut ($6), Thyme, Sage, Garlic, Onion

French Baguettes / Sub rolls: Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Garlic, Plain, Herb: let me know if you'd like the traditional baguette or want the sub rolls instead. You still get the same volume, just in different forms (4 sub rolls vs. 2 baguettes).
Bagels: Whole Wheat, Oat, Plain, Sesame, Herb, Blueberry --see comment above about price
Surprise Bread! ($5) ---I upped this from $4 to $5 because I usually add some unusual ingredients. It's never just a basic loaf or recipe. Ex: Last week it was the tomato basil with sun-dried tomatoes from Eats, herbs from Cara, and fresh basil from my plants.

DESSERTS
Make Your Own Pie ($12) or Tarts ($4): Choose any combo (2 minimum, because I don't have huge quantities of any :) : Blueberry, Rhubarb, Raspberry, Strawberry, Black Raspberry. Want a shortbread crust? Add $2 for tarts and $4 for pies.

Also! Please keep in mind that there's no magic preservatives and such in your items, so they will mold faster than store bought items (this especially pertains to the bread items). I did a test here, and my items started to mold at 5 days. I haven't tested how well my items freeze just yet (I usually just end up eating everything, haha), but you're welcome to try it and report back to me :)

Week 2!

Hey everyone!

Please feel free to post any comments or suggestions about your items from last week! I welcome suggestions, feedback, and recipes!

Please have orders in by Sunday night. I'm going to visit my sister in Richmond this weekend, so we shall do Sunday order deadline and Tuesday pickup from now on. I think week days might work well for most folks anyways with travel and all. If not, shoot me an email or text (814.873.2580) and we can most certainly work something out. Once more, all things are $4 unless noted.

This week you can order:
Sandwich Loaf (French, Honey Whole Grain <wheat and oat> ($5), Rosemary, Avocado + Sunflower ($7), Maple Walnut ($6))
Round Loaf (French, Honey Whole Grain ($5), Rosemary, Avocado + Sunflower ($7), Maple Walnut ($6), Thyme, Sage, Garlic, Onion)
Flatbread (Rosemary, Garlic, Thyme, Sage, Plain)
French Baguettes (Your choice/combo: Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Garlic, Plain)
Strawberry Rhubarb Pie ($12)
Rosemary Shortbread Sheepies ($2.50; available in quantities of 6 cookies)
Lavender Shortbread Sheepies ($2.50; available in quantities of 6 cookies)

I'm getting the whole wheat flour from Eats, the Oat Flour (Bob's Red Mill) from Kroger, the rosemary and  lavender either from the farmers market or my plants, thyme and sage from my plants, garlic from Kroger, strawberries from the farmers market or Oasis, rhubarb from my Grandma Madoline, and the honey from a beekeeper who lives about 45 minutes away from my house in PA.

Would anyone be interested in pierogies (potato-cheese filling) or even ravioli ( ricotta-asiago-basil filling)? I can make them from the same type of dough. My Grandma's Czech, and she taught me well :) Let me know and I can look up some prices for you guys. Also, I'm planning on heading up to PA for the 4th of July and could probably hunt down some Pennsylvania maple syrup if anyone's interested in that, too. There's at least 2 maple syrup "farms" within an hour of my house.

Thanks!!
