Week 2 Orders!!

Hello!

Welcome to my bakery and craft service! If you found out about me through my bagels, I encourage you to try out some of my other products--they're all just as good!

Please post your order as a comment to this post and INCLUDE ANY FOOD ALLERGIES even if the product you're ordering doesn't contain the allergen. I'm currently experimenting with some gluten-free recipes, too. Do so by Sunday night.

Count on a Tuesday pick-up/delivery day.

All items are $4 unless otherwise noted.

BREADS (Herb/Flavor choices include: Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Oregano, Garlic)

Sammich Loaf:

French Baguettes / Sub rolls: Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Garlic, Plain, Herb: let me know if you'd like the traditional baguette or want the sub rolls instead. You still get the same volume, just in different forms (4 sub rolls vs. 2 baguettes).

A note about the pies... I use lard in my pie crusts for several reasons, but the main being it makes the absolute best pie crust. If you'd like Crisco used in your crust, let me know, and I can substitute it for the same price.

Fall 2011: Bagels Bagels Bagels

Man, I have missed baking on a regular basis. I'm going to start this semester off right with Bagel Tuesday! Post your orders as a reply to this post and PLEASE INCLUDE ANY FOOD ALLERGIES if you are new to this service. Please plan on a Wednesday evening pick-up and a change in address (I'll let you know where to pick-up when you order :).

About Find A Way....

Find A Way Bake and Crochet is whatever you need it to be. When I started this endeavor, the intention was to make it as collaborative and dynamic as possible. I do a bakery service of breads, tarts, bagels, and cookies, but I'll also do special orders such as pies and cakes. If you've got a copy of Grandma's recipe and want it made for you, I'll find a way to bake it.

I also crochet, make jewelry, and paint. Is there a designer crocheted/knit bag you've been coveting but don't want to splurge on it? I'll find a way to make it. Is Mom's birthday coming up, and you need a gift you know she'll love? Let's work together to design some one-of-a-kind earrings just for her.

I love crafting, whether it's with bread or yarn or beads or sculpey. And I love community. Can I integrate the two? This is me trying to find a way.

Ingredients and Responsible Sourcing

When I say "responsibly" I mean I will consider all aspects of the food production and procurement. The majority of the fruits for pies and such will either be local or be purchased from a local vendor (such as the Hethwood Market near Foxridge, or The Green Market at the farmers market or Oasis). I always take into consideration which industry I want to support. Usually, local beats out the Big Organic stuff, because it's just as wasteful and industrial as conventional.

In regards to flours, Big Spring Mill (the local brand), uses a soft winter wheat which is unsuitable for bread but good for cakes and muffins and such. I plan on using both the flour (relatively local and a good price) available at Eats and King Arthur brand to do my breads.

My eggs are all local. I worked on a farm two summers ago and basically fell in love with the chickens there. Haha, I feel like they would disown me if I bought store eggs now. My dairy will either be from Duchess (purchased at Oasis or Hethwood Market) or Homestead (likely purchased from Kroger).

My herbs are either homegrown, bought from the farmers market, or store-bought.

Your (maple walnut) bread is delicious. It's so dense, I love it. It's got a good penetration of the maple flavor without hitting me over the head with sweetness, and the walnuts blend in with the bread so well that I can't tell where they are in my slice and get a wonderful surprise when I bite down on one. I make sammiches almost every day using your sammich loaves! In fact, one loaf and a jar of peanut butter constituted all the food i ate over the weekend not provided by the conference i was attending, and i have no complaints (except that the peanut butter came in a plastic jar for which i now must find a use).
